The U4energy portal officially launched three different competitions for submission in September 2010, aiming at enhancing energy efficiency in schools. The three competitions invite teachers and pupils to think about their daily consumption habits, taking action to optimize energy resources. Below, you will find an outline of the competition categories.
Teachers and pupils can decide to engage in one or more categories, according to the participation requirements. Teachers should consult the guidelines for participants before planning how best to integrate the U4energy competition in the school curricula. Pupils are warmly encouraged to start saving energy by regularly checking the U4energy portal for smart tips about energy efficiency.

Παραγωγή ενέργειας από τα σκουπίδια του ΧΥΤΑ Τρικάλων
Το κόστος κατασκευής της μονάδας ανέρχεται σε... 28 εκατ. ευρώ και θα χρηματοδοτηθεί από το ΕΣΠΑ.
Οι μελετητές έχουν υποβάλει και το τελευταίο στάδιο της Α’ Φάσης της μελέτης και εξετάζονται όλες οι εφαρμοζόμενες ανά τον κόσμο μέθοδοι διαχείρισης των στερεών αποβλήτων, όπως Μηχανική επεξεργασία, Βιολογική επεξεργασία, Θερμική επεξεργασία, Τεχνολογίες Πλάσματος καθώς και διάφορες παραλλαγές ή και συνδυασμοί αυτών, αναπτύσσοντας τα πλεονεκτήματα και μειονεκτήματα κάθε περίπτωσης.
Έχοντας σαν βάση τα δεδομένα των στερεών αποβλήτων (ποσότητα, σύνθεση, κ.λ.π.) για του νομούς Τρικάλων και Καρδίτσας, προτείνεται η μέθοδος της Μηχανικής Βιολογικής Αναερόβιας Επεξεργασίας με ανάκτηση ενέργειας και ανακυκλώσιμων υλικών.
Σε αδρές γραμμές, η μέθοδος αυτή προβλέπει
• Παραγωγή κομπόστ το οποίο μπορεί να διατεθεί ως εδαφοβελτικωτικό,
• Παραγωγή βιοαερίου το οποίο μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί για παραγωγή ενέργειας (ηλεκτρική, θερμική)
• Και παραγωγή-διαχωρισμός ανακυκλώσιμων υλικών τα οποία μπορούν να διατεθούν προς ανακύκλωση.
